While largely unknown to the general public, martial arts practitioners know and respect
Filipino Martial Arts as one of the most effective, fast and lethal systems in the hand-tohand
combat world.
- Although commonly referred to as street combat, close quarters self defense and the like,
most of these programs that are taught in martial arts schools have their foundation in
the Filipino Martial Arts.
- The Filipino Martial Arts have humble origins. They had to be simple to learn in a short
period of time when faced with immediate threats from other villages or foreign
invaders.
- There was little time to teach flashy techniques; instead only the skills that were proven
effective and easily taught became part of the “system”.
- Thus, the FMA became a “system of systems”, making it a complete combative art that
incorporates weaponry, empty hand and ground fighting techniques.
- Terminology and specializations were largely regional, but the fundamentals largely the
same… For this reason, the terms Filipino Martial Arts are respected around the world,
and also known as Kali, Escrima and Modern Arnis.
- The FMA Convention is the place where we can celebrate the culture of the
Philippines… by celebrating diversity and honoring life we’ll preserve our Spiritual,
Mental and Physical well-being, for the benefit of all.
- This philosophy of simplicity is still used today and is the underlying foundation base of
the FMA.
